Amongst the reasons behind the popularity of tablets is the fact that they appeal to a huge target audience. They have easy to use touch screen interfaces, meaning that lots of people who would not enjoy using a laptop or desktop are more comfortable to make use of them. Kids love playing with tablets. While you can get specifically designed tablet computers for children, many parents just buy them an entry level tablet. There are loads of apps, software and games readily available for children, and parental controls mean that it's simple to avoid them coming across inappropriate content. At the opposite end of the scale, pensioners are also using tablet computers. A tablet computer can be a brand new window on the world for elderly people. They can employ them for corresponding with loved ones, hanging out on social networks, listening to music and watching videos. A number of seniors are even embracing computer games, and some studies have suggested that this may help to prevent loss of memory.

The eBook Reader

Novelists also found that they had a lot more flexibility and independence as a result of the option to circumvent big publishing firms by self publishing their own books. Authors, many of whom would not have been published in the conventional publishing regimen which had been in place before the appearance of e-readers, published their own books. Quite a few of these were very successful - it's surprising to see just how many self published works are to be found in the various bestseller lists.

And it had not been just unheard of beginners who were exploring alternative publishing approaches. Several rather well known authors capitalized on the added independence afforded by e-books and readers to release their works without involving conventional publishing companies.

When they first appeared on the market, e-readers attracted early adopters and geeks in the main. However, when prices started to drop and hardware was upgraded, regular bookworms really started to see the potential offered by the advantages of e-book readers. Most importantly, the e-ink technology screen delivered a truly enjoyable reading experience with no back-light and therefore no eye strain.

When all's said and done, if the reading experience had not been of the highest quality, all of the other characteristics of e-readers would be immaterial. However, it was, for the majority of users, as similar to reading printed text on paper as to make no perceptible difference. A lot of customers also took pleasure in the option of changing the font appearance and size - an useful function if you've misplaced your reading glasses.

In between Gutenberg's invention of movable type and the very early 2000's, there had not been a lot of variation in basic book design. There were undoubtedly plenty of innovations in printing techniques and productivity. Word processing and computerised printing systems lowered both time and cost requirements, but the final merchandise, the book, would have been instantly recognisable to Gutenberg and his contemporaries. It wasn't until the arrival of e-readers, starting around 2006, that there was a further quantum leap in the world of reading and publishing. Electronic books and pdf documents had been about for a long time previous to that, but they definitely had to be read on computers. Whilst some of these at least were "mobile or portable", they were far from the convenient measurements and weight of a book.

E-readers are most definitely one of my favorite electronic devices. They make it easy for you to have countless books with you everywhere you travel, but within a tiny, light and portable device that needs less room than the typical paperback book. They are most definitely ideal for any individual who likes books and who travels frequently.

No more cramming large, chunky books into your hand luggage. The e-ink display is awesome to read on and, due to the fact that the battery life is lengthy (it will work for weeks between charges), there's absolutely zero risk of losing juice at a gripping point in your latest blockbuster novel.
